The following summarizes reports filed at Rye Police headquarters from 12/9 to 1/6. The information does not include final court or other actions.
12/9: Complainant reported unknown person charged a round-trip flight from Indiana to India using her credit card number. Statement taken.
12/12: North Street resident reported leaving iPod Touch and Bose headphones on flight home from Canada. Statement filed for insurance purposes.
12/12: City of Rye police car discovered to have anarchist symbol drawn on hood in white crayon while parked near Purdy Avenue.
12/13: Car 16 responded to verbal dispute between residents of Beck Avenue over heating bill and bathroom flooding. Parties agreed to discuss with landlord.
12/13: Two beagles reported barking constantly at Maple Avenue house. Summonses issued.
12/14: At same Maple Avenue address, resident reported theft of 5-month-old male beagle puppy. Complainant insisted dog was stolen and did not run away.
12/14: Midland Avenue resident reported Christmas lights were damaged by youths throwing tennis balls. Owner’s deposition taken.
12/15: Golf course manager at Apawamis Club stated unknown persons had written on walls of halfway house and set fire to the ladies’ bathroom sometime after 12/12. Statement and photographs taken.
12/17: White Porsche Carrera convertible observed rolling to a stop on Milton Road at Playland Parkway with headlights off. Car remained motionless during next green light cycle. When ordered to turn onto Playland Parkway and pull over, driver made wide improper turn across two lanes of traffic. Driver’s eyes were watery, bloodshot and glassy. When asked why she was driving without lights, she explained car was late husband’s and she could never get it working right. Asked if she had been drinking, she replied, “Not that much.” Queried about her destination, she said, “Maybe a park.”
Woman produced an expired registration and a suspended license. An open bottle of Georgi vodka was located in plain view on the passenger seat. On leaving vehicle, operator staggered, swayed and sagged. Stopped walking during field sobriety test stating, “I don’t care.” Blood alcohol test showed .23%. Lay down on floor in holding cell. Computer check showed prior DWI conviction, making this arrest a felony. Charged with six violations. Car impounded, vehicle (with working headlights) towed.
12/18: Two Rye brothers came to Police HQ to report unknown person(s) had opened Best Buy accounts using their personal information. Total charged: $3,529 in merchandise.
12/19: Grace Church Street resident reported his car, with the keys in it, was stolen from driveway overnight. His wife reported her purse was taken from second vehicle. Investigation opened.
12/19: Neighbors of above reported two of their vehicles were broken into overnight. Driver’s side window smashed, friend’s GPS missing.
12/20: Maple Avenue laundry room complainant (see 12/18) returned to Police HQ, stating his wife had taken his children to Florida without his permission.
12/21: Best Buy identity thief strikes again: Hammond Road resident reported unauthorized bill of $1,893.88. Civilian statement completed.
12/22: Grapal Street resident reported domestic incident with father the night before, resulting in minor injury to son’s lip. Declined to file charges.
12/22: Driver in motor vehicle accident at Midland Avenue and Cottage Street was found to have suspended South Carolina license (14 suspensions on 10 dates in New York). Offender placed in custody.
12/23: Door lock of vacant Purchase Street apartment damaged, probably by crowbar. Apartment not entered.
12/25: Schwinn jogging stroller found in Station Plaza. Placed in property locker.
12/26: Dark gray Clear Creek Schwinn mountain bike found in woods near Rye Rec tennis courts. Placed in Police bike rack.
12/28: Pleasantville woman reported her boyfriend’s aunt at Allendale Avenue home used profanity and told her she had to leave premises. Offender then proceeded to smack her in the face with a cellular phone. Report filed.
12/18: Maple Avenue man reported his soon-to-be ex-wife was in their laundry room on Wednesday when her order of protection clearly states Wednesday is his laundry day.
12/30: Motorist contacted at home after leaving accident at Library Lane and Boston Post Road produced passport and stated she had an Egyptian driver’s license. Check showed license suspended for failure to answer summons in Town of Rye in March 2000. Handcuffed and transported to Police HQ.
12/31: Pine Lane resident reported his Ford Explorer had been stolen from Depot Plaza parking lot during afternoon. Became irate at police officers, then admitted having “some beers.” Based on behavior, police searched area for his vehicle, which was found near Wachovia Bank. No mention of thank-you in report.
1/1: Club Road resident reported damage to front door lock plate in attempted break-in. Detective took statement.
1/1: Entire description of Frederick Court incident: “Report of trouble with a neighborhood boy over a cat.”
1/3: Clinton Avenue resident brought in wallet he had found in car park. Owner contacted, retrieved property.
1/3: Grace Church Street resident returned home to find stolen blue Ford Escape parked in driveway. Greenwich police confirmed theft; vehicle towed.
1/6: Billington Court resident stated someone had attempted to steal her new Lexus LX 570 overnight. Damage to door, running board lights, interior lights and computerized ignition system. Owner’s manual containing spare key stolen from glove box. Photos taken, Lexus notified.
1/6: Grapal Street resident reported his son was “sucker punched” in left eye by another student in ongoing situation. Officer dispatched to take report.
1/6: Woman stated she found passport outside Police HQ. Listed owner contacted, but house is vacant and phone disconnected. Property placed in report drawer.
