Just for Teens

Rye Nature Center will host a Youth Volunteer Work Day on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. Middle and high school students are invited to join the nationwide Day of Service to help a community non-profit organization. Teams of teens will do some important mid-winter upkeep, splitting and stacking firewood for the Sugar Shack, painting walls and helping with the new wetland board walk or perimeter trail and cleaning more space for the new Nature Playground.

Adults are also invited to volunteer to be team captains for particular tasks. Youth volunteers will earn Service Learning credits. Pizza will be provided at noon. The event will be held rain or shine. Pre-registration is not required.

The “in” crowd will be heading to Teen Nights at the Rye Y every weekend this month. The Y is open for basketball, swimming (swim caps required) working out, video games, air hockey, ping-pong, and socializing with friends in the Teen Lounge. Friday nights are for high school students, Saturday nights for grades 6 – 8. On January 24, sixth graders are invited to a special dance.

Entry is free for members, $5 for teen access members. Entry to the 6th Grade Dance is $5, including pizza.
