Rye Recreation has something for everyone in its winter program. In Hobby Quest, children will build model airplanes from scratch, fly them and take them home. The class will be held Thursdays, starting January 29 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm (grades K-2) and 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. (grades 3-6). The fee is $90 for residents, $115 non-residents.
Let’s Get Cookin’ teaches the basics of cooking to preschoolers and kindergarteners and they get to eat some of the yummy treats. Classes run January 20 through March 5: Tuesdays, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. for 3- and 4-year-olds; Thursdays, 12:30-1:15 p.m. for age 5 and grade K. The fee is $75 for residents, $100 non-residents.
Bored after school? Stop by Rye Rec for their Friday Afternoon Drop-In and play pool, ping-pong or challenge your friends to a friendly game of Madden Football. The free program is open to grades 6 – 8 and runs through March 13.
Rye Rec and the Rye Y are co-hosting Sunday Night Open Gym from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Y for boys and girls in grades 6 – 8. No sessions on January 25 or February 1.
The Chess Tournament is back! On Saturday, January 24, at the Rye Free Reading Room, chess champion Tom Levine, who has conducted the library’s popular annual tournament for more than 25 years, will once again referee round-robin play and award prizes to the top three players. Players should bring a chess set and snack and plan to play four rounds.
Players of all skill levels are welcome. This program is open to ages 6 – 14. Registration begins at 10:15 a.m. Play begins at 10:30 a.m.
