Alyssa Coughlan Honored for Sportsmanship

Manhattanville freshman Alyssa Coughlan, a 2008 Rye High School graduate, was one of six Manhattanville student-athletes recently named to the Fall 2008 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Sportsmanship Teams.

One player from each of the Valiants’ six fall championship sports received a spot on their respective teams, which recognize student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship through their actions on and off the field during the fall season. Coughlan was selected by her peers to represent field hockey, and was the only freshman to be named to the MASCAC field hockey sportsmanship team. The freshman forward recorded one goal and one assist in 16 starts, scoring her first career goal in the team’s season-closing win over Delaware Valley November 1.

Coughlan was a member of the Garnets’ 2007 State Championship team, and now plays for first-year Valiants’ head coach Kevin Kelly, who came over from Rye after a long and championship-filled tenure as head coach.
