The Rye Women’s Interfaith Committee will host its annual conference Sunday, January 25, in the Resurrection Church Parish Hall. Guest speaker Dr. Elena Procario-Foley will give a talk entitled “Obliged to Tell the Truth” at 4 p.m. Dr. Procario-Foley is the Driscoll Professor of Jewish-Catholic Studies and an associate professor of Religious Studies at Iona College.

The Great Outdoors
Ever wonder how you navigated before GPS? Learn how to use a compass and the landscape to guide you at an “Orient Yourself” program led by Chris Mignone at the Marshlands Conservancy Saturday, January 17, at 10 a.m. Compasses will be provided, but you can bring your own.

Arts for All

Paintings of well-known Florida artist Nike Parton are on display at the Rye Free Reading Room until February 16. Parton, who recently passed away, led painting expeditions up and down the Florida West Coast for over fifty years. Many of her oil and watercolor landscapes are of views that have since been destroyed by development.

… The Rye Youth Council Hearts of Gold Gala, which is just around the corner. On Saturday, January 24, guests will have a chance to celebrate three honorees who give from the heart: Helene Byrnes, Laura Slack and the Rye Youth Lacrosse Association. The celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club, 555 S. Barry Avenue. Gold attire is encouraged. Tickets are $185. Call 967-3838.

Save the Date
The Rye YMCA will host its popular Barefoot Bash Saturday, February 7, from 7 to 11 p.m. in the gym. Co-chairs Kat Doyle, Kelley Worman and Laura Kelleher have planned a Mardi Gras-themed night, featuring Dixieland jazz. Expect great food from local restaurants and caterers and a first-rate silent auction.

Kids’ Corner
Rye Recreation has something for everyone in its winter program. In Hobby Quest, children will build model airplanes from scratch, fly them and take them home. The class will be held Thursdays, starting January 29 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm (grades K-2) and 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. (grades 3-6). The fee is $90 for residents, $115 non-residents.

Just for Teens
Rye Nature Center will host a Youth Volunteer Work Day on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. Middle and high school students are invited to join the nationwide Day of Service to help a community non-profit organization.

Especially for Seniors
The Senior Activities in a Jewish Environment (SAJE) group at Community Synagogue is sponsoring two noontime programs this month. On Thursday, January 22, the speaker is Arlene R. Popkin, Chair, New York Civil Liberties Union, Lower Hudson Valley Chapter.

Mix and Mingle
Rye Recreation has added two new beginner Zumba classes to its winter schedule. Grab a partner, or not, and drop by for a single class ($15), 10 classes ($130) or 20 ($220).
